From Vision to Reality: Brenntag’s Path to Digital Excellence and Performance

The Context

Brenntag SE, a global leader in the distribution of chemicals and ingredients, operates in over 600 locations across 72 countries with a workforce of 17,500 employees and a revenue of €19.4 billion in 2022.

As part of its Horizon 2 strategy under the Brenntag Transformation Journey, the company introduced a new Purpose and Vision 2030, focusing on agile leadership, a customer-centric mindset, and strategic growth. To effectively implement these initiatives and achieve sustainable growth, Brenntag recognized the need to empower its employees with the right skills and mindset for digital transformation.

The Challenge

Brenntag faced several challenges as it embarked on its digital transformation journey. The new vision and purpose were not fully understood by managers and employees, and there was a critical skills gap in digital competencies necessary to drive transformation. Additionally, the company faced high pressure to deliver on ambitious growth and profitability targets. Without clear alignment and the necessary capabilities, Brenntag risked falling short on its objectives, making it essential to translate the new vision into actionable steps for all employees.

How we helped?

Aeqlia collaborated with Brenntag to design and implement a comprehensive leadership development program aimed at fostering digital transformation. Key components of the program included:

  • Brenntag Future Fit Leadership Series: A 90-day, customized leadership journey to equip managers with agile leadership skills and digital competencies.

  • Custom-Built Business Simulation: A simulation tailored to Brenntag’s specific vision and growth strategy, enabling employees to experience real-world scenarios and understand the impact of their actions.

  • Integrated Purpose and Strategy Workshops: Workshops conducted with country leadership teams to break down the new vision and make it relatable and actionable across different regions.

The partnership between Brenntag and Aeqlia led to significant improvements in Brenntag’s transformation efforts:

  • Widespread Leadership Training: Over 350 managers and leaders were trained across APAC, enhancing digital competencies and agile leadership skills.
